The best possible dental tip we can give you is to keep up a great dental hygiene routine at home that includes brushing twice a day for 2 minutes, and flossing at least once a day. As a general rule, use a soft-bristled brush and replace it every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
The goal of brushing and flossing is to remove plaque buildup.Brushing only removes deposits from the visible surfaces of your teeth. Flossing, on the other hand, allows you to remove plaque from between your teeth and underneath the gums. Failure to remove plaque from these areas can cause weakening of gums.
Correct way of Brushing
- Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.
- Gently move the brush back and forth in short strokes.
- Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.
- To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.
- Be sure to brush your tongue to remove odor causing bacteria.
- Either manual or powered brushes can be used effectively.
Correct way of Flossing
- Pull around 18 inches of dental floss from the floss dispenser. Wind the floss around middle fingers of each hand. Pinch floss between thumbs and index fingers, leaving some in between. Use thumbs to direct floss between upper teeth. Use index fingers to glide floss between contacts of the lower teeth.
- Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under the gum line.
- Floss each tooth thoroughly with a clean section of floss.
